Writing About Art

Later this month, I’m going to take a class, Writing About Art with Marc Awodey, at Studio Place Arts.  I’m so excited!  Check out this description:

Writing About Art

“There’s more to visual art than meets the eye, and writing about an exhibition contextualizes the show while encouraging the writer to consider work at a deeper level.  In this workshop we’ll be visiting and discussing exhibitions at local venues such as the Governor’s office, The Supreme Court lobby, and the T.W. Wood Gallery in addition to spending time with the shows at SPA.

“Our initial Friday session will be gathering notes – and taking pictures of – the exhibitions.  You’ll be asked produce a review, or other mode of writing, regarding an exhibition of your choice. During the second Friday we’ll revisit the exhibitions that were written about, and discuss the completed writings.  Some might be selected for publication in Vermont Art Zine! http://vermontartzine.blogspot.com  Bring a sketch book and digital camera.”

This will mark the beginning of a major shift in this blog, actually.  As you can tell, I recently moved from a free WordPress.com blog devoted to my consulting work with Local Resources to my own named WordPress.org website.  I’m keeping the main themes of Local Resources, but will write a few more personal entries that integrate my work and home life.

Taking this “Writing About Art” SPA class will, I hope, help me add on an art component, since the arts have taken an increasingly large role in my life in the last few years.  So photos, reviews and maybe even interviews might be in the works!

More changes will arrive in the next year, so stay tuned.  (And if you have artists or art venues I should know about, let me know!)
