In 2012, I wrote up a post with links to some of my favorite reflection resources. I included more than 300 questions, prompts or affirmations from more than a half dozen websites that I’ve personally used.
As you may know, reflection is an important part of my life. I regularly make time for planning, pondering, reflecting and meditating. In 2012, I even set up my Google calendar to remind me of my favorite reflection prompts every few days.
In the last two years, I’ve come across more resources and thought it was time to provide an updated post with links and suggestions.
Here are some of my new favorites:
Evaluating Your Life as It Stands Today from Tackling Our Debt
This resource breaks out questions into categories: Health, Financial, Spiritual, Relationships, and Personal. The Health section starts out a little slow, but I really appreciated the questions related to relationships and personal life.
For example:
- Do I stand up for what I believe in?
- Do I live in my dream location?
- Am I open to welcoming new people into my life?
There is No Life B: 100 Ways to Live Before You Die from A Life of Blue
This blogger doesn’t seem to be online anymore, but thank goodness this post is still live. These aren’t questions per se, more like prompts or even challenges. The blogger, Connie Biesalski, worked very hard to construct a life – and every detail of it – that worked for her and her own value system, so some of the prompts might seem wonderfully crazy, but I like to use that to get my thinking outside of the box.
For example:
- Stop faking your life.
- Shave off all your hair.
- Drink good coffee only. Learn what good coffee tastes like.
You don’t necessarily have to follow each imperative, but ask yourself what might happen if you did.
60 Thought Provoking Questions That Will Change Your Perspective on Life from LifeHack
This is a solid list of reflection questions. They’re more basic than the previous two lists, but it never hurts to revisit these kinds of questions.
For example:
- What story are you telling yourself about your life?
- Are your goals and dreams written down?
- When someone sees your name on caller ID, what thoughts and feelings do you want them to have?
The best list I’ve read yet comes from Mark Manson:
7 Strange Questions That Help You Find Your Purpose in Life
This guy has a unique, blunt, and awesome perspective. He’s brutally honest, but you should demand nothing less of your reflection.
For example:
- What is true about you today that would make your 8-year-old self cry?
- What makes you forget to eat and poop?
There are only 7 questions, so I won’t reveal too many. Go visit this post now.
I stand by the lists in my 2012 post, especially 50 Questions That Will Free Your Mind from Marc and Angel and 20 Questions Worth Answering Honestly from Alastair Humphreys.
I hope you enjoy these questions as well, and that you build time to reflect into days.
Are there other lists I should know about?
